The Northern Club is one of Auckland’s oldest and most prestigious buildings and dates back 140 years. The work carried out by Canam Interiors consisted mainly in refurbishing the basement area. Due to the nature of the building and its historical element Canam Interiors were faced with many challenges throughout this project. Structural strengthening was required throughout the basement area, this was an engineering feat due to the buildings existing structure and age. Canam Interiors tackled these challenges head on and overcame these problems whilst the club was fully functional throughout the entire fitout. The basement of the Northern Club has been totally transformed from a non functional part of the building to a new fully functional and vibrant area. A new state of the art kitchen has been installed to cater for all the clubs activities and five star menus, with a dumb waiter being installed to transfer meals up to the private and main dining areas on the first floor. A modern bar and restaurant has also been built in contrast to the existing buildings older ornate features. The features of the bar are its painted T & G floors and ceiling, steel wall panels and shelves and steel bar with an illuminated glass top. A timber deck has also been built in which club members can enjoy socialising outdoors. A gymnasium with male and female changing facilities was also incorporated into the refurbishment. The project was completed on time and within budget, all to a very high standard.
